Manuka Honey can be used in a variety of recipes to add its unique flavour and potential health benefits. One popular option is to make a simple and delicious Manuka honey glazed salmon. This recipe combines the sweetness of Manuka honey with the savoury richness of salmon for a flavourful and nutritious dish.

Manuka Honey Glazed Salmon Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 4 salmon fillets (skin-on or skinless)
  • 2 tablespoons Manuka honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari (for a gluten-free option)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
  • green salad to serve on the side (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:

    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Prepare the Honey Glaze:

    • In a small bowl, whisk together the Manuka honey, soy sauce or tamari, fresh lemon juice, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper. This will be your honey glaze.

  3. Marinate the Salmon:

    • Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish or a resealable plastic bag.
    • Pour half of the honey glaze over the salmon fillets, making sure they are well coated.
    • Allow the salmon to marinate in the refrigerator for about 15-30 minutes. This will infuse the salmon with flavour.

  4. Cook the Salmon:

    • Heat an oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. If you don't have an oven-safe skillet, you can use a regular skillet and transfer the salmon to a baking dish later.
    • Once the skillet is hot, add a bit of oil (such as olive oil or vegetable oil) to prevent sticking.
    • Place the salmon fillets, skin-side down if using skin-on fillets, in the skillet. Sear the salmon for 2-3 minutes until it gets a nice golden colour on the bottom.

  5. Glaze the Salmon:

    • Pour the remaining honey glaze over the salmon fillets.
    • Transfer the skillet (if oven-safe) or transfer the salmon to an oven-safe baking dish.

  6. Finish Baking:

    • Place the skillet or baking dish in the preheated oven.
    • Bake the salmon for about 10-15 minutes, or until it flakes easily with a fork and reaches your desired level of doneness. The glaze should caramelise slightly on the salmon.

  7. Serve:

    • Remove the salmon from the oven.
    • Garnish with chopped fresh parsley or green onions if desired.
    • Serve the Manuka honey glazed salmon hot, alongside your favorite side dishes like steamed vegetables or rice.
